Are there PFAS in condoms and lubricants?

2024-11-06

Several brands of condoms and personal lubricants contain alarming levels of toxic PFAS “forever chemicals”, including famous brand styles of Trojan and KY Jelly, new research finds.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large group of man-made chemicals that contain strong carbon-fluorine bonds. These bonds make PFAS highly resistant to degradation, water, oil, heat, and stains. PFAS do not break down easily in the environment or human body, leading to widespread contamination.

Does prsonal Lube has PFAS? 25% of personal lubricants had indications of PFAS “forever chemicals.” Specifically, 1 out of 4 lubricants had detectable levels of organic fluorine above 10 ppm. Ranges of organic fluorine, a marker of PFAS, were from 13 ppm to 68 ppm.
